📖 The Story Behind My Books As an Occupational Therapist specialising in neurodivergence and sensory processing.

I have always believed in the power of storytelling to support children in understanding their experiences. My journey into writing and self-publishing started when I created a book as a strategy to help one of my clients. Seeing the impact, I realised that other neurodivergent children could benefit from stories that reflect their experiences in a validating and engaging way.

Using Canva for illustrations and Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), I was able to bring these stories to life, making them accessible to more families. This is just the beginning!! I plan to write many more books covering different neurodivergent themes.

💡 Do you have a theme you’d love to see explored in a book? I’d love to hear from you! Get in touch if you have ideas for future stories that could help neurodivergent children and young people.

📚 Books I’ve Written

📖 The Adventures of Rose and Whizzle: A Tale of Harmony For Sensitive Ears.
💡
This book was inspired by my work with a young client who struggled with sound sensitivity (hyperacusis) and auditory overwhelm. Everyday noises, from bustling classrooms to humming refrigerators, felt intense and unpredictable, making it difficult for them to feel comfortable and engaged in daily life.

🌟 The story follows Rose, a bright and curious child, and Whizzle, a mischievous yet wise little creature, as they embark on a magical journey through Diversi Valley. Along the way, Rose learns gentle strategies to manage overwhelming sounds, navigate noisy environments, and discover her own sense of harmony.

📘 This book is a fun, imaginative adventure that offers practical, sensory-friendly ideas woven into the story, making it a perfect read for neurodivergent children with sound sensitivities, their families, and educators looking for relatable, neuro-affirming ways to support sensory regulation.

📖 The Adventures of Rose and Whizzle: The Magic Cloakroom

💡 This story was developed to introduce children to what a Sensory Occupational Therapist (OT) does in a school setting through an imaginative and engaging adventure. Many children may not fully understand why they see an OT or what sensory support looks like, and this story helps make those experiences feel familiar, fun, and empowering.

🌟 When Rose and Whizzle start finding school overwhelming they go on a journey into the Magic Cloakroom, a hidden space where sensory challenges transform into exciting discoveries. With the help of a magical Sensory OT, Rose learns about proprioception, movement breaks, deep pressure activities, and self-regulation strategies, all woven into a magical adventure.

📘 This book is a fun, neuro-affirming introduction to sensory OT for children, parents, and educators. It helps to increase understanding of how OTs support sensory processing in schools while providing practical, relatable strategies in a way that feels engaging and accessible to neurodivergent children.
