Capability, Capacity, Performance
Capability is what someone can do under ideal conditions. Capacity is whether they can use that capability sustainably, reliably, across contexts. Performance is what is visible to the outside world.
For neurodivergent people, capability is often present. Capacity is often the gap. Performance is what gets noticed - or punished - when capacity runs out.
A child who can write neatly at home but cannot at school. A teenager who can mask through the school day and melts down in the car. A young adult who can do the work but not the meetings. These are not capability problems. They are capacity problems. They tell us where the foundations need support.
This is the lens we run every assessment, every conversation, every recommendation through.
Neuroaffirming, Not Pathologising
We do not try to make neurodivergent people more neurotypical. We work to understand how each person's brain and body actually work, and how to make daily life work better around them.
Sensory differences, regulation, executive function, motor patterns - these are explored as part of who you are, not problems to be fixed.
We do not use the word resilience. We work on building capacity. The difference matters.
Occupation-Led
We are occupational therapists. Occupation means the things you want or need to do day to day - school, work, sleep, dressing, eating, socialising, learning, parenting.
When we assess, we do not lead with a diagnostic label. We lead with what is happening in daily life, what is getting in the way, and what would make a difference. Sensory work, motor work, regulation work all sit inside this bigger picture.
This is what occupational therapy uniquely offers - and often what other professionals miss.
Lived Experience
Lived experience built into the work
Our team includes neurodivergent clinicians, including our founder. We process information through explicit detail, not inference. We do not pathologise. We meet people where they are.
When you work with us, the lens is not theoretical. It is lived.
How Our Team Works
How our team works
KTA works with carefully selected specialist occupational therapists who deliver clinical work to our model under Katie's clinical direction.
All our clinicians are HCPC-registered, RCOT members, and hold specialist training in sensory integration, neurodivergent-affirming practice, and complex SEND work.
For complex case formulation, integrative reasoning, and specialist consultancy, Katie also works through Diversi Valley.
Ethical Commitments
We do not diagnose
We are occupational therapists, not psychiatrists or psychologists. We can assess sensory profiles, functional skills, and the occupational impact of neurodevelopmental differences. We cannot diagnose autism, ADHD, or other conditions.
We do not make cure claims
Occupational therapy is not about fixing anyone. We work alongside you to understand what is happening and what helps.
We work to professional standards
HCPC registration, RCOT membership, clinical supervision, ongoing CPD, professional indemnity insurance.
We hold trauma-aware and attachment-informed practice
Pacing, consent, choice, and clear boundaries are built into how we work.
